HK Group 1 Double For Purton

Hong Kong superstar Beauty Generation continued on his dominant ways with a seventh consecutive victory in Sunday’s Group 1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin.

Under star jockey Zac Purton, the reigning Hong Kong Horse of the Year showed his customary early speed to take up the running before powering away over the final 400m to defeat Beat The Clock and Conte by almost two lengths.

It was the John Moore-trained galloper’s sixth career Group 1 win and third this season after success in the Hong Kong International Mile (1600m) and the Stewards Cup (1600m) in recent months.

Beauty Generation is unlikely to be campaigned on the international stage this season with Moore indicating post-race that the six-year-old would next appear in the Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m) in April.

Purton made it a Group 1 double less than an hour later when he steered Tony Cruz’s Exultant to victory in the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m).

The son of Teofilo settled near the rear but Purton made a lightning move with 900m left to run, circling the field to take the lead before running away in the straight to defeat Southern Legend.

Despite racing wide throughout, enigmatic galloper Pakistan Star loomed as a winning chance turning for home but peaked on his run over the final 200m.
