Singapore Racing: Talented Kiwi Galloper Shows Who’s The Boss

Countofmontecristo has repaid the faith showed in him by leading rider Glen Boss.

The New Zealand-bred son of Echoes Of Heaven successfully resumed at Kranji over 1200m on Sunday evening to take his record to six wins from seven appearances for trainer Michael Clements.

Boss had to waste hard to ride at 51.5kg and Countofmontecristo made his efforts worthwhile with a comfortable victory in his first appearance since their third placing in the Singapore Guineas in May.

“He was the best horse in the race and I was not going to ride him pretty,” Boss said. “It didn’t quite work out for him in the Guineas, but he was still very gallant.

“He has come back mentally stronger, while physically he’s the same. He was so relaxed throughout the run and he won a nice race in the end. It was worth wasting for a horse like him. You’ll do that for a nice horse.”
