Singapore Racing: Toeroek The New Adelaide Dux To Ride At Kranji

Leading Adelaide apprentice jockey Jake Toeroek was granted a short-term visiting jockey’s licence in Singapore from 27 July to 9 August 2015.

The 21-year-old becomes the sixth apprentice jockey to gain further experience in Singapore as part of a collaboration between the Singapore Turf Club and Thoroughbred Racing South Australia in placing the Dux of their Apprentice School at Kranji. Previous South Australian apprentice jockeys to have benefitted from that scheme are Amy Herrmann, Libby Hopwood, Jordan Frew, Krystal Bishop and Jamie Kah.

First indentured to trainer Tony McEvoy in the first two years, then to trainer Richard Jolly, Toeroek has booted home close to 190 winners in a young riding career spanning only 3 ½ years. He achieved his best season in 2013-2014 when he secured the Adelaide metropolitan apprentice jockey title and won the Leon Macdonald Award for South Australia Apprentice of the Year.

Currently fourth on the Adelaide metropolitan jockey’s premiership on 33 winners, Toeroek has yet to win a Group race, but did land a Listed race when he took out the Sportingbet WH Wylie Quality aboard Karacatis for his master Jolly last September.

Toeroek will be indentured to Kranji trainer Shane Baertschiger during his two-week visit and goes to scale at 53kgs.
