Alizee Resumes In Spectacular Style For G2 Randwick Win

Godolphin’s star Australian filly Alizee lived up to her spring promises as she got her autumn campaign underway with a courageous win in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick on 17 February.

Alizee became the first G1 winner for her sire Sepoy during her previous preparation and showed again she is among the best of her age, claiming victory by a head from Shumookh.

Success came thanks to a confident ride from Glyn Schofield who had Alizee perfectly positioned from the start and poised to make her challenge with 300m to run.

Alizee responded magnificently when called on, forcing through between horses and then doing best in the drive to the line to hold off Shumookh and the third placegetter Torvill.

Trainer James Cummings will now set Alizee for another G1 target the most likely options the Surround Stakes over 1,400m at Randwick on 3 March or the Coolmore Classic of 1,500m at Rosehill a week later.

As well as confirming her place among Australia’s elite racehorses, Alizee is proving herself a worthy member of an illustrious family that includes her half-brother Astern (Medaglia d’Oro), a G1 winner and now a Darley stallion, her dam Essaouira and grandam Alizes – both outstanding racehorses – and third dam, the G1 winner La Baraka.

It is a family that also includes La Baraka’s dam, the champion race mare and producer, Triscay a winner of 15 races, including five G1s.

Alizee is one of seven stakes winners for Sepoy from  three southern hemisphere crops of racing age.

Sepoy stood the most recent southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of A$16,500, including GST.
