King’s Legacy Improves His Legendary Sire’s Record

Arrowfield’s hand in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL on 11 January strengthened further on Saturday when the Snowden-trained Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Legacy won the $250,000 BRC BJ McLachlan S. 1200m G3.

King’s Legacy takes his legendary sire’s record to 170 stakeswinners and  he is the 39th among them to earn stakes-winning status as a juvenile.

Redoute’s Choice’s son Bradbury’s Luck won the 2005 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and he has also supplied five placegetters: Not A Single Doubt & Marie Madeleine (2004), Snitzel & Al Samer (2005) and No Looking Back, relegated to second behind Driefontein in 2012.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy said of King’s Legacy, “He’s sharpened up from his trials and his first start, he knuckled down there from the top of the lane home, he’s got a great attitude and a lot of ability to boot.”

The colt’s prizemoney of $150,000 comfortably qualifies him for the 2YO Classic, alongside Not A Single Doubt’s quartet the McLachlan Stakes 3rd Euphoric Summer, Gotta Kiss, Farnan & Arrowfield-sold Stellar Pauline, and Snitzel’s stakes-winning daughter Away Game.

Other contenders with less prizemoney include Arrowfield graduates Bartley (Written Tycoon-Rationality) & Anders (Not A Single Doubt-Madame Andree).

King’s Legacy’s Group win at his second start capped an outstanding day for bloodstock agent James Harron whose “Dark Green, Old Gold Epaulettes” were also carried to victory by Magic Millions raceday contenders 2YO Nitrous and 3YO Leviathan at Randwick.

Purchased by Harron from breeder Segenhoe Stud for $1.4 million, King’s Legacy is the first of the three seven-figure Redoute’s Choice colts from the 2019 Magic Millions Sale to race.

He’s also one of 7 Group-winning $1 million+ colts by the Champion Sire – the other six are Mustaaqeem, Master Of Design, Beneteau, Burgundy, Musket & Mearas.

King’s Legacy is the second foal of the stakes-placed 7-time winner Breakfast In Bed (by Hussonet from a Sunday Silence half-sister to Not A Single Doubt) who was bred by Arrowfield and sold for $220,000 to Paul Moroney at the 2011 Inglis Easter Sale.

The Redoute’s Choice/Hussonet cross has a remarkable strike rate of six (30%) Group winners from 20 runners, three of them bred & sold by Arrowfield: Champion South African filly Majmu, Widden S. G3 winner Honesty Prevails and the brilliant Pariah, also bought by James Harron and now on the Arrowfield stallion roster.

There are two colts among the 9 Redoute’s Choice yearlings  in the 2020 Magic Millions Sale bred on this cross: Bhima Thoroughbreds’ Lot 354 out of Gresset and Arrowfield’s full brother to Honesty Prevails, Lot 307.
