Transferred from Coolmore Australia to Grangewilliam Stud in New Zealand earlier this year, Champion Miler and Royal Ascot hero Haradasun featured in South Africa on Saturday when his two year-old colt Harry’s Son captured the Group I Premiers Champion Stakes.
Partnered by Piere Strydom, the Paul Lafferty trained colt did best in a blanket finish to win the 1600 metre feature by a head with Lonhro colt Anjaal a close up dead heat third.
Harry’s Son won on debut at Scottsville in January and has been placed in every start since including Group I placings in the Greyville Golden Horseshoe and Scottsville Gold Medallion, so was overdue for a win at the elite level.
Harry’s Son, who now has two wins and four placings from six starts, is the first Group I Winner for Haradasun and is his fourth stakes-winner.
From the family of champion sprinter and boom young sire Starspangledbanner, Haradasun will stand at a fee of $5,500 in New Zealand this spring.
