Winners For 2014 George Main Stakes Day

The George Main Stakes meeting will be held at Randwick this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Dead 4 and with fine weather in Sydney, Randwick is likely to be racing on a Good track on raceday.

The Underwood Stakes meeting will be held at Caulfield this weekend. Caulfield was rated a Good 3 and with overcast weather forecast for the next couple of days in Melbourne, the meeting will be held on a Good/Dead surface on raceday.

Pheidon can make amend from his 1st up defeat in the Bill Ritchie Handicap (Sydney Race 2, 1400m). The 4YO was floundering in the very Heavy condition in the Tramway Handicap last start. Back to a Good track on Saturday will certainly suit Pheidon as all his 3 career victories were achieved on Good track. From barrier 1, James McDonald can settle Pheidon just behind the leader and get a cushy run on the fence. Watch him let down strongly in the straight.

Darley colt Orujo can win the Heritage Stakes (Sydney Race 3, 1100m). The 3YO has been racing against much stronger opposition like Lankan Rupee. Down in class on Saturday will make his task much easier. Orujo has a good record over 1100m having won once & placed once from 2 starts over the distance. From barrier 5, Sam Clipperton will park Orujo one off the fence behind the pace and bid his time until the last 300m. Currently at $6.50 fixed odds, Orujo is a value bet.

I believe top filly Winx will remain unbeaten by winning the Tea Rose Stakes (Sydney Race 4, 1400m) on Saturday. The Street Cry filly is pretty bomb proof winning from 1100m to 1400m & she can handle any track condition. She blitzed the field last start in the Furious Stakes & she is facing the same oppositions in the Tea Rose on Saturday. Winx looks hard to beat.

The Offer is stepping up to a more suitable distance in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (Melbourne Race 7, 1800m). The Offer resumed with a terrific 5th in the Feehan Stakes (1600m), coming from a fair way back to be beaten only 1.75 lengths. This Montjeu gelding had won 3 in a row before his spell including the Chairman’s Handicap & the Sydney Cup. The Offer is right on target for the Melbourne Cup and he could start his winning form in the Underwood on Saturday. At $6.50 fixed odds, I believe The Offer is over the odds.
