Winners For The 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions Day

The Magic Millions 2YO Classic meeting will be held at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Showery in the Gold Coast, the track has been rated a Heavy 8 on Thursday and it’s likely to remain in the Heavy range on raceday.

The Sydney meeting will be held at Royal Randwick this weekend. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney, Randwick will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

Rosehill trainer Chris Waller can continue his feature races winning streak with Amovatio in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (Gold Coast race 2, 1800m). The 4YO has been racing in good form winning twice & finishing 2nd twice in his past 4 starts. He has a pretty good record on wet track. Drawn beautifully in barrier 1, Amovatio has the service of champion jockey Damien Oliver and he looks the horse to beat.

Champagne Cath is another Chris Waller-trained horse who can make her mark at the Gold Coast in the R.M. Williams Magic Millions Quality Handicap (Gold Coast race 3, 1300m). The 3YO resumed with a good 2nd over this trip three weeks ago. Though Champagne Cath failed on the three occasions she was racing on wet tracks, they were all good class Group events. She did finish a close 2nd in a trial on a Soft 5 track at the beginning of this campaign. Nicely drawn in barrier 6 (into 5 after scratchings), and Hugh Bowman will be on board.

Gerald Ryan can continue Sydney trainers’ dominance on the Magic Millions meeting by winning the MM3YO Guineas with Aerobar (Gold Coast race 5, 1400m). The filly sat on the pace in the M.M. 3YO race at Wyong last start and she simply kicked away from the field in the straight. I can see James McDonald employs the same tactics on Saturday from barrier 4. Aerobar can also handle the wet condition as she had a victory on Heavy track to her credit. Currently at $8.50 fixed odds, Aerobar represents a value bet.

Jockey Chris Munce announced his retirement from race riding on Wednesday and Wicked Intent can provide Munce with a great retirement present in the M.M. 2YO Classic (Gold Coast race 6, 1200m). This race is usually won by the form 2YO horse and Wicked Intent is certainly in great form with 3 wins & a 2nd from his four start career. This 2YO was racing on the pace last start in the BJ McLachlan Stakes but the race was simply set up for the backmarkers after the pace the leaders had set, yet Wicked Intent kicked on strongly to hang on for 2nd. The colt can handle any track condition and he has drawn well in barrier 5. Munce will be able to park Wicked Intent just behind the leaders and make his move rounding the home turn. I believe the $6.50 fixed odds currently on offer is slightly over the odds and is certainly worth backing.
