Winners For 2016 Civil Stakes Day

The Civil Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill is likely to be racing on a Soft 5 surface on raceday.

The Waller-trained Foxplay was very impressive breaking her maiden status last start and will once again be the horse to beat in the opening race on Saturday (Sydney Race 1, 1400m). The Foxwedge filly absolutely annihilated the field last start and won easily by three lengths. Stepping up to 1400m 3rd up will suit her even better. She certainly will be hard to hold out.

Top weight Junoob is a class horse and he looks the testing material in the Winter Cup (Sydney Race 4, 2400m). The 8YO gelding has been racing consistently under big weights. Though he finished 8th in the Tatt’s Cup last start, he was pretty much just beaten by the Eagle Farm track after drawing barrier 1 when the inside section was off. And he can bounce back on a better track and the easier Rosehill 2400m. Even with 61kg, Junoob is the one they all have to beat. Currently at $7.50 fixed odds, Junoob represents a good value bet.

Chris Waller has three runners in the Club Marconi Handicap and Dinghu Mountain looks the best chance amongst them (Sydney Race 6, 1500m). The 3YO gelding won brilliantly last start coming from a fair way back over 1350m at this track. Stepping up to 1500m should not be a problem, and the anticipated Soft 5 track should suit as he has won twice and placed once from 4 starts in Soft condition. From barrier 6, Blake Shinn will settle the gelding in a good spot somewhere in mid-field and Dinghu Mountain will run over the top of this field.

Team Snowden-trained Snippets Land has been in good form and having drawn a nice gate in 2, he’s a winning chance in the Civil Stakes (Sydney Race 7, 1350m). After finishing 2nd in the Prime Ministers Cup, Snippets Land took out the BRC Sprint brilliantly at Doomben over Saturday’s trip. And he simply couldn’t make up any ground at the new Eagle Farm track last start in the QTC Cup. This gelding can handle any track condition and with Blake Shinn back on board, Snippets Land looks the horse to beat in this winter feature race.
