Winners For 2016 Doomben 10,000 Day

The Doomben 10,000 meeting will be held at Doomben this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with fine weather forecast for Brisbane over the next couple of days, Doomben will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

The Liam Birchley-trained Rock Royalty has been racing in Group company and the drop in class on Saturday will certainly help him (Brisbane Race 1, 1200m). Last start in the Group 2 Victory Stakes, Rock Royalty finished 5th behind TJ Smith Stakes runner-up Fell Swoop (2nd to Chautauqua in the TJ), and that is good form line. The 1200m is his pet distance as 6 of his 7 career victories were over the six furlong. With Luke Dittman’s 1.5kg claim, the 7YO will only be carrying 55.5kg. Currently at $11.00 in the fixed odds market, Rock Royalty is a terrific value bet.

Ghisoni is all the rage in the Glenlogan Park Stakes betting market (Brisbane Race 3, 1350m). The Lonhro filly is only having her second career preparation. She won brilliantly 1st up in the Surround Stakes before a good 6th in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic. Last start in the Arrowfield Stakes, she finished a close up 5th to Group 1 winners Japonisme & Counterattack, and Counterattack franked the form last week by taking out the Fred Best Classic. John O’Shea has given the 3YO a soft trial eleven days ago and the filly is ready to go. Ghisoni is the deserved favourite and she should win accordingly.

The promising colt Attention looks to have conditions to suit in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Brisbane Race 5, 1350m). The Team Snowden-trained 2YO ran a mighty second 1st up in the Champagne Classic (1200m), beating Sires’ Produce favourite Souchez in the process. The longer trip (1350m) on Saturday will suit Attention even better. Blake Shinn will once again be on board and from barrier 6, Attention will settle just behind the pace and be ready to pounce in the straight. At $7.00 fixed odds, Attention represents a good value bet.

The Group 1 Doomben 10,000 is the feature race of the day and the current favourite Azkadellia could be a risk (Brisbane Race 7, 1350m). Azkadellia has drawn the widest gate (10) and judging by her racing pattern, she could be trapped wide during the race. And I believe her current quote of $2.80 is under the odds. In terms of producing Doomben 10,000 winners, the BTC Cup has been the most reliable guide with 11 of the past 19 winners having rounded out their preparations in that event. Dothraki finished a nose 2nd to Malaguerra in this year’s BTC Cup. With the winner by-passing the 10,000 and go straight into the Stradbroke Handicap, Dothraki looks the best fit to win this year’s Doomben 10,000. The 1350m will suit Dothraki and from barrier 6, Blake Shinn will settle the gelding behind the pace one off the fence. Dothraki will go very close in taking out the Doomben 10,000.
