Winners For 2016 Memsie Stakes Day

The Run To The Rose meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday and with further showers leading up to the weekend, Rosehill is likely to be racing on a Heavy track.

The Memsie Stakes meeting will be held at Caulfield on Saturday. The course proper was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday and with fine weather in Melbourne over the next couple of days, Caulfield will probably border on Good/Soft condition on raceday.

The Team Hayes-Dabernig trained Highland Beat could be the horse to beat in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (Melbourne Race 6, 1200m). He ran a beauty 1st up in the Vain Stakes at this track behind the unbeaten Russian Revolution. He likes Caulfield with 4 placings from 6 starts at the venue. Stepping up to 1200m 2nd up looks perfect. Drawn nicely in barrier 3, Damian Lane will park Highland Beat just behind the pace on the fence and he’ll be ready to pounce in the straight.

Black Heart Bart is resuming on Saturday and he has the class and form to take out the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (Melbourne Race 7, 1400m). The 6YO was in immaculate form before his spell winning the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap before being nosed out by Under The Louvre in the Stradbroke Handicap. He also has decent 1st up form winning twice with a placing from five 1st up attempts. 1400m is Black Heart Bart’s pet distance, having won five times with four 2nds from 10 starts at the trip. Against a field make up mostly from resuming stayers, Black Heart Bart looks hard to beat.

The Waller-trained Sir Bacchus is the testing material in the Racing Mates Handicap (Sydney Race 6, 1200m). The 4YO gelding is resuming and he has good fresh form. Last preparation, he won back-to-back races here at Rosehill before he was outclassed in the Fred Best Classic. He is unbeaten at 1200m winning all 3 starts at the trip. Champion jockey Hugh Bowman will be on board and that’s another plus. From gate 4, Sir Bacchus will receive a lovely run mid-field and he’ll be hard to hold out.

Impressive San Domenico Stakes winner Star Turn can continue his winning way in Saturday’s Run To The Rose (Sydney Race 7, 1200m). Though he finished a good 6th in the Golden Slipper, Star Turn has really shown his maturity 1st up in the San Domenico as a 3YO. The Star Witness colt is unbeaten on Soft tracks winning 2 from 2 , so there is every chance that he can handle the anticipate Heavy track on Saturday. Tommy Berry will be on board again and from barrier 5, he will go forward and settle just behind the leading bunch. Star Turn will be the one they all have to catch.
