Winners For 2017 Cox Plate Day

The Cox Plate meeting will be held at Mooney Valley on Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with light showers forecast leading up to the weekend, Mooney Valley is likely to border on Good/Soft condition.

Top weight Single Bullet is the class horse in the Telstra Phonewords Stakes and he is primed to take out this Group 3 race (Melbourne Race 3, 1200m). The Not A Single Doubt colt has come back in good order finishing 2ns in both starts this campaign, the later in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes over this trip at Randwick. The 3YO is in-form and can handle any track conditions. From barrier 7, Tim Clark will go forward and sit outside the leaders and Single Bullet could be hard to catch.

The Waller-trained Invincibella has been in top form and is ready to strike again in the Tesio Stakes (Melbourne Race 5, 1600m). The 4YO mare has won 2 from 2 so far this preparation. Last start over the Randwick mile, she beat Lubiton, who has also accepted for this race on Saturday, running away with the race with plenty in hand. Invincibella will be on the limit weight on Saturday and has drawn the rail (gate 1) which will allow Tim Clark to settle just behind the pace on the rail. With reasonable pace in the race, Invincibella should be able to get a split rounding for home. Invincibella is all set to make it three wins on the trot.

The Cox Plate is usually won by the best WFA horse and there’s absolutely no doubt that Winx is the best horse in the country (Melbourne Race 9, 2040m). The Waller-trained mare has won her past 21 races in a row and it looks a formality that she makes it 22 straight wins on Saturday. Winx is in form, can handle any track conditions and she seems to be a better horse the Melbourne way of going, as evident in her 6.5 lengths demolition job in the Turnbull Stakes last start. Having drawn barrier 6 will make sure that she won’t get cluttered up on the fence and will have a clear passage in the run home. Winx will become only the second horse to win 3 successive Cox Plate on Saturday.
