Winners For 2017 San Domenico Stakes Day

The San Domenico Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 3 on Thursday and with light showers forecast for Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill is likely to remain in Good condition on raceday.

The Waller-trained Awoke is the class horse in the Pro IT Handicap (Sydney Race 2, 1500m). The 4YO resumed with a close win over 1250m at Canterbury just edging out The Pharoah before being beaten narrowly over this track and trip 4 weeks ago. The mare will strip fitter for Saturday’s assignment. Waller has kept Awoke up to the mark by sending her through a 900m trial a week ago in which she duly won. Up in the weight but down in class on Saturday. Hugh Bowman will be back aboard the mare and Awoke is primed to take out the Pro IT Handicap.

Vaucluse Bay is back in good health and the stable is confident the gelding will run well in the Pacific Boating Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 2000m). The 4YO has been in tip top form winning back-to-back races before his last start failure when he pulled up with heart arrhythmia. Vaucluse Bay has an affinity with his home track having won 2 from 3 starts at Rosehill. Race jockey Corey Brown was aboard Vaucluse Bay for an easy 1045m trial 4 days ago. From barrier 7, Brown can settle the 4YO just behind the pace and Vaucluse Bay is set to return to winning form on Saturday.

Classic Uniform has finished runner-up in his past two starts and the gelding is primed to go one better in the Premier’s Cup (Sydney Race 5, 1900m). This Gary Moore-trained 5YO has been ultra consistent, who is never far away in his races. Last start a fortnight ago, Classic Uniform was leading the chasing pack behind the form horse of the Sydney winter, Arbeitsam, having given the Team Waterhouse-trained gelding 6.5kg.  Classic Uniform is rock hard fit and stepping up to 1900m 5th up looks perfect. From barrier 2, Tim Clarke is likely to take the gelding forward and share the lead with Broadside, and Classic Uniform could prove hard to catch.
