Winners For 2015 Civil Stakes Day

The Civil Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Heavy 8 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill is likely to border on Slow/Heavy condition.

The Paul Perry and Thomas Huet combination have taken the provincial circuit by storm lately and they are ready take out the opening event at Rosehill with Surfin’ Safari (Sydney Race 1, 1200m). The 2YO colt has won two of his past three starts and the Soft to Heavy condition would not worry him at all as he has won twice & placed twice from 4 attempts in the wet. From barrier 10, I believe Huet will go forward and settle just behind the likely leaders Hail The Chief and Unblemished. Surfin’ Safari will be the horse they all have to beat.

The Jason Coyle-trained Final Decision won over this track & trip last start three weeks ago and he can repeat the dose with winning jockey Tye Angland on board again on Saturday (Sydney Race 4, 1500m). Angland has developed an affinity with the gelding as he has ridden the 3YO twice for two wins this preparation. The anticipated wet condition wouldn’t bother Final Decision as he has won & placed in the wet before. From barrier 2, Angland will park the gelding mid-field along the fence and the cushy run in transit will leave Final Decision with plenty up his sleeves in the drive home.

Electric Power can make it two wins on the trot in the Ruben Guthrie In Cinemas July 16 Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1200m). The Kris Lees-trained mare has only ever missed a place once on wet track from 9 attempts and she won well last start on a Heavy 10 track at Randwick and will get conditions to suit again on Saturday. Electric Power is also unbeaten over 1200m and from a lovely gate (barrier 4), Blake Shinn will give the mare a gorgeous run just behind the pace. Currently at $5.50 fixed odds, Electric Power represents pretty good value in an open race.

The Team Snowden-trained top weight Dothraki is the class horse in the Listed Civil Stakes (Sydney Race 6, 1350). The Mossman gelding did a good job last start winning the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes at the Gold Coast. The 4YO has only missed a place once at Rosehill from 5 starts and he can handle any track condition which will put him in good stead. Stepping up to 1350 3rd up is ideal. Though having drawn awkwardly in barrier 13 (will start from barrier 10 without the emergencies), Blake Shinn will take Dothraki to the front and he could still be too classy for this field.
