Winners For 2018 Chelmsford Stakes Day

The Chelmsford Stakes meeting will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

Last start winner Symi can continue her winning way in the opening event at Randwick (Sydney Race 1, 1300m). This Fastnet Rock filly won on debut three and a half weeks ago over 1250m at Canterbury leading from start to finish. Tommy Berry will once again be on board the 3YO on Saturday. From barrier 8 (into barrier 6 after taken out the emergencies), Berry will take Symi straight to the front and try to run them ragged.

Reigning Concorde Stakes winner Redzel is resuming on Saturday and is primed to defend his Concorde crown (Sydney Race 5, 1000m). The Team Snowden-trained gelding has run in two trials (finishing 2nd & 1st respectively) in preparation for his return to racing. Redzel has a good 1st up record and he has only missed a place once over 1000m. And he loves Randwick having 6 wins and placed a further 3 times from 10 starts at the venue. From barrier 6, Kerrin McEvoy will settle just behind likely leaders The Monstar and Invincible Star and he’ll be ready to bounce in the straight. Even with 60.5kg, Redzel will show his class by running over the top of this field.

ATC Oaks winner Unforgotten has conditions to suit in the Chelmsford Stakes and she could well be the horse to beat (Sydney Race 7, 1600m). Back in the Autumn, the 4YO mare showed a good turn of foot in taking out the Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m before finishing 2nd in the Vinery Stakes and then victorious in the Oaks. Resuming in the Winx Stakes a fortnight ago, Unforgotten put in a meritorious effort behind the champion mare Winx, beaten only 3.8 lengths on the line. Stepping up to the mile 2nd up will suit the mare as will the good pace in the Chelmsford Stakes. Champion hoop Hugh Bowman will be aboard on Saturday and that’s another plus. Bowman will park the mare further back than mid-field and watch Unforgotten unleashes her great turn of foot in the run home.
