Winners For 2018 The Rosebud Day

The Rosebud meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

Dean Mirfin-trained Jetgirl can kick off Saturday’s meeting by taking out the Highway Handicap (Sydney Race 1, 1100m). This 4YO has been in terrific form winning her last 2 starts, with her latest victory a widening 6.3 lengths at Bathurst over Saturday’s trip. The Nicconi mare has drawn perfectly in barrier 1 and champion hoop Blake Shinn be on board. From the rail’s draw, Shinn will go straight to the front and Jetgirl will show this field a clean pair of heels.

The Godolphin-owned Istria will have conditions to suit in the Dooley’s Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 1400m). Istria finished a short half head 2nd to Oria when resuming over 1200m at this track two weeks ago. Stepping up to 1400m 2nd up looks ideal and newly crowned Sydney champion apprentice Rachel King (who is now a senior rider) will once again be on board. Nicely drawn in barrier 2, King will settle somewhere mid-field on the fence and bide her time. With a cushy run in transit, Istria will finish the race strongly.

Last start winner Plague Stone can continue his winning way by taking out The Rosebud at Rosehill (Sydney Race 6, 1100m). This promising Lonhro colt has finally fulfilled his potentials this preparation winning both his trials before being victorious when 1st up over 1000m three weeks ago, sprinting his last 600m in 32.66 secs. Stepping up to 1100m will suit him even better. With a fair bit of pace in the race, Hugh Bowman is likely to take the 3YO back in the field and Plague Stone will come home with a booming finish.
