Winners For 2019 Hobartville Stakes Day

The Hobartville Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. The course proper was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday and with light showers forecast for Sydney over the next couple of days, Rosehill is likely to be racing on a Soft track on raceday.

Godolphin-owned colt Tassort looks hard to beat in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Sydney Race 2, 1100m). The Brazen Beau 2YO won impressively on his debut in the Golden Gift at this track & trip by 5.3 lengths. James Cummings has sent Tassort out in an 895m trial eleven days ago where he duly won. The Silver Slipper Stakes has been a pretty reliable guide in finding the Golden Slipper winner where 3 Silver Slipper winners in the last 7 years have completed the slippers double (Pierro [2012], Mossfun [2014], She Will Reign [2017]). James McDonald retains the ride on the colt and with plenty of pace in the race, McDonald will settle mid-field before Tassort unleashes his sprint in the straight. Tassort is going to confirm his Golden Slipper favouritism by taking out this Group 2 race on Saturday.

The lightly raced 5YO Archedemus can continue his winning streak in the Ranvet Stakes (Sydney Race 3, 1350m). The Gwenda Markwell-trained gelding has been very consistent winning his last 3 starts in a row. The anticipated Soft condition will suit as Archedemus is unbeaten in the wet winning 2 from 2, including a victory over this trip on a Heavy track by 9.3 lengths on 15th December. From the inside gate (1), Chad Lever will stalk the pace travelling along the fence and Archedemus will be looking to make it four wins on the trot.

The Waller-trained So Taken can make it 2 wins from 2 starts this preparation in the Spark Of Life Handicap (Sydney Race 6, 1100m). First-up over this trip at Warwick Farm on 28th Jan, So Taken won well on a Heavy track. The 3YO has a good record in the wet with 2 wins and a 2nd from 5 attempts on Soft tracks. Drawn beautifully in barrier 4 and the in-form Kerrin McEvoy takes over the rein on Saturday. With fairly good pace in the race, McEvoy will bide his time just behind the leading bunch and So Taken will be full of running in the straight.
