Winners For 2019 Winter Stakes Day

The Winter Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Heavy 8 on Thursday and with mainly fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill will be racing on a Soft track on raceday.

Lanigera can kick off the day on a winning way for punters in the opening event at Rosehill (Sydney Race 1, 1100m). This Godolphin-owned gelding broke his maiden status last start at Newcastle on a Soft track, leading from start to finish. The 2YO is even fitter being 3rd up and is ready to run out a strong 1100m. Jockey of the moment Blake Shinn will also be on board. In a race with moderate pace, Shinn could well take Lanigera to the lead. If left alone in front, Lanigera could prove hard to catch.

Jason Coyle-trained Spiritual Pursuit can continue her winning way in the ATC Foundation Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1100m). The Snitzel filly has been in great form winning twice with a 2nd placing from 3 starts before her spell. First up this campaign over this track & trip on June 1, the filly’s fitness gave way in the last 100m eventually finishing 2nd to Wagner. Much fitter when 2nd up, Spiritual Pursuit won easily from Invictus Salute on a Heavy 8 track at Randwick. And Invictus Salute had franked the form by winning at Randwick last Saturday. Samantha Clenton, who is fresh from her winning double last Saturday will claim 2kg on the 3YO and brings her weight down to 57kg.  Nicely draw in barrier 5, Clenton will go forward and probably share the lead with Agent Pippa. With conditions to suit, Spiritual Pursuit will be hard to run down.

Godolphin-owned Gaulois is primed to take out the Winter Stakes (Sydney Race 7, 1400m). This 4YO gelding won well last start over this track & trip under the guidance of Rachel King and King will once again be on board the gelding. Gaulois loves Rosehill as he has never missed a place at this venue with 2 wins and 5 placings from 7 attempts. Gaulois also has a good record over this trip and he can handle any track conditions. Having drawn the rail (gate 1), King will settle behind mid-field along the fence. A fair pace in the race would allow Gaulois to fly home strongly.
