Winners For 2020 Expressway Stakes Day

The Expressway Stakes meeting will be held at Randwick on Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with overcast weather leading up to the weekend, Randwick will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

The Waller-trained Global Quest has won his only start in the Breeders Plate at this track back in October and the More Than Ready colt can make it another black type victory in the Canonbury Stakes (Sydney Race 2, 1100m). Waller has given Global Quest two trials where he has finished 2nd in both jumpouts. Champion hoop Hugh Bowman will be onboard on Saturday and from barrier 4, Bowman will settle just behind the leaders and Global Quest will be too strong in the run home.

The Rodney Northam-trained Harbouring has been very consistent this campaign and the gelding can continue his good work in the TAB Highway Plate (Sydney Race 3, 1500m). Northam has been spacing his runs and Harbouring seems to be responding in a positive way. This 4YO has won 1st up over 1300m before finishing 3rd in a Highway Handicap at Rosehill over 1500m. He did win last start over the mile at Quirindi in late November. The distance should suit and the in-form Nash Rawiller will be onboard. Drawn nicely in barrier 6, Rawiller will settle behind the leading bunch and Harbouring will let down strongly in the last two furlongs.

Good mare Alizee looks the horse to beat in the Expressway Stakes (Sydney Race 7, 1200m). The James Cummings-trained 5YO is a 1st up specialist having won 4 times from 5 first-up starts. Alizee has a good record at 1200m and she also loves Randwick with 5 of her 9 career victories came from the headquarter. Hugh Bowman knows the mare well and he’ll once again be onboard. Golden Eagle winner Kolding is a serious race horse but 1st up over 1200m, Alizee would be too sharp for him.
