Winners For 2020 Gosford Gold Cup Day

The Gosford Gold Cup meeting will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with fine and sunny weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

Subpoenaed looks a top prospect in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter BM78 Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 1400m). This 3YO has been racing against top fillies like Shout The Bar and Probabeel this campaign. And she did a good job last start in the Group 3 James Carr Stakes beaten only a head by Rubisaki. With the 1.5kg claim from Robbie Dolan, Subpoenaed will only be carrying 58kg. The likely leader of the race, Rule The World, has drawn out wide and that would ensure the race to be run at a reasonable clip, and backmarkers like Subpoenaed will be given her chance to run over the top of this field.

The promising gelding Masked Crusader looks tough to beat in the Master Builders Association NSW BM78 Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1200m). This Team Hawkes-trained 3YO had won his last 2 starts in Melbourne easily. He had shown a brilliant turn-of-foot sprinting his last 600m in 33.31 secs last start over 1000m. Tommy Berry rode the gelding to two trial victories last year and he’ll be on board on Saturday. There will be a fair bit of pace in the race and Berry is likely to settle somewhere mid-field. Masked Crusader will unleash strongly down the long Randwick straight.

The in-form Mark Newnham stable can claim another feature race win by taking out the Gosford Gold Cup with Greysful Glamour (Sydney Race 7, 2000m). The grey mare has come back in good order this preparation winning the Mannerism Stakes 1st up. Last start in the JRA Plate over this track & trip, Greysful Glamour just got napped by Life Less Ordinary in the last few bounds. Very fit, the drying track will suit and Rachel King knows the horse well. In a race without a lot of pace, King will go to the front and dictate terms and Greysful Glamour could prove hard to catch.
