Winners For 2020 Tancred Stakes Day

The Tancred Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with light showers forecast for Sydney over the next couple of days, Rosehill is likely to border on Good/Soft condition on raceday.

New Zealand visitor Quick Thinker looks the horse to beat in the Tulloch Stakes (Sydney Race 3, 2000m). This 3YO colt has been competitive against Shadow Hero and Castelvecchio. And last start in the Phar Lap Stakes, he finished a good 3rd beaten only by those two great fillies in Funstar and Probabeel. Quick Thinker handles any track conditions and has drawn beautifully in gate 2 in the Tulloch. James McDonald will settle just behind the pace on the fence and Quick Thinker will be too classy for this field.

Last start winner Handle The Truth could make it back-to-back race wins in the Star Kingdom Stakes (Sydney Race 5, 1200m). The inaugural Kosciuszko winner has not missed a place since victory in that $1.3 million race, finishing 2nd in the Goulburn Cup in his subsequent start followed by a 3rd in the Starlight Stakes. This Keith Dryden-trained 4YO won well on a Soft 6 track when 1st up (1000m) in Canberra on 8th March, sprinting his last 600m in 33.88 seconds. Stepping up to 1200m 2nd up will suit and he loves Rosehill having won 3 times with a 3rd from 5 starts at the venue. Down in the weight at only 53.5kg, Handle The Truth could be hard to catch. Currently at $9.50 in the fixed odds market, Handle The Truth is good value for punters.

The form horses in the Tancred Stakes are definitely the Kris Lees-trained duo Mustajeer and Mugatoo (Sydney Race 6, 2400m). However, Mugatoo’s class could be questionable for WFA racing hence I opted for Mustajeer. This 7YO finished down the track in the Melbourne Cup before his spell. And he came back in great style winning the Parramatta Cup (1900m) 1st up on a Soft 7 track before finishing 2nd in the Sky High Stakes on an extremely Heavy track two weeks ago. Stepping up to 2400m 3rd up should suit and so will the Soft track. Mustajeer could easily outstay this field at good odds ($8.50).
