Winners For Saturday’s Sydney Meeting (7th Jul)

The Sydney meeting will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Heavy 8 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick is likely to be racing in the Soft range on raceday.

The Darley-owned Marmaris is the class horse in the opening event at Randwick (Sydney Race 1, 1200m). A consistent performer, the Lonhro 2YO was having his 1st up run over this track & trip two weeks ago where Marmaris came from 3rd last at the turn to finish 2nd to top colt Dio D’oro, beaten only a length on the line. Marmaris can handle any track conditions and has never missed a place over 1200m from 3 attempts at the trip. Given his form line against Dio D’oro, Marmaris should beat this field without too much hassle.

The small field in the Half Yearly Membership Mile will suit La Chica Bella (Sydney Race 4, 1600m). The Joseph Pride-trained mare won well on a Soft track over 1500m at Rosehill two starts back before failing to run out the 1800m last start. Stepping back to the mile on Saturday will suit and Rachel King is back on board who knows the 4YO really well. From barrier 6, King will take the mare straight to the lead and La Chica Bella will be hard to catch.

Top weight Plymouth Road will have conditions to suit in the Winter Racing Handicap and will once again be the horse to beat (Sydney Race 5, 2400m). The 5YO has been performing well in his last 3 starts once he stepped up to a trip. The gelding was dominant over this track & trip last start, winning by 2.3 lengths leading from start to finish. He loves wet tracks which it seems he will get on Saturday. Plymouth Road is very fit and Adam Hyeronimus rode him perfectly last start and he will be on board again. Nicely drawn in barrier 3, Hyeronimus will go to the front and control the pace. Plymouth Road will repeat his last start effort and run away from the field again.
