Winners For The 2015 Tatts Tiara Day

The Tattersall’s Club Tiara meeting will be held at the Gold Coast this year. The course proper was rated a Heavy 8 on Thursday but with fine weather at the Gold Coast leading up to the weekend, the meeting could be held on a Soft track on raceday.

The Sydney Saturday meeting will be held at Randwick and the course proper was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday. With further showers forecast for Sydney, the meeting will surely be held on a Heavy track on raceday.

Eagle Farm trainer Kelso Wood can take out the opening event on Tatts Tiara day with 3YO filly She’s Miss Devine (Brisbane Race 1, 1200m). The filly has been racing consistently this preparation winning 1st up over 1000m and a close 2nd to Mohave last start in a Listed 1200m race. Matter of fact, She’s Miss Devine has never missed a place over 1200m from 4 starts. From barrier 11, Ryan Wiggins will push the filly forward settling probably just behind the likely leaders Night Rituals & Try ‘N’ Catch Me, and She’s Miss Devine will be ready to pounce turning into the straight.

Gai Waterhouse and Tommy Berry can combine to take out the Tattersall’s Stakes (Brisbane Race 3, 1400m) with Harlem River. The Fastnet Rock filly has finished 2nd in both her career starts to Team Snowden’s promising filly Flippant. From the lovely gate (Barrier 5) on Saturday, Tommy Berry can take Harlem River to the lead easily and she will be hard to catch. Harlem River will start odds-on but she looks the best bet of the day.

Darci Be Good is backing up from last week close 3rd in the Ipswich Cup in this Saturday’s SouthBank Insurance Brokers Open Handicap (Brisbane Race 5, 1800m). The 6YO gelding has been racing consistently without missing a place in his last 4 starts. Dropping back to 1800m suits and the anticipated Soft/Heavy condition would not faze him. Champion Hong Kong jockey Zac Purton will be on board and Darci Be Good is currently at good value at $7.00 in the fixed odds market.

It’s a shame that Srikandi has drawn the extreme outside barrier (will start in barrier 16) in the Tattersall’s Club Tiara (Brisbane Race 7, 1400m) or else I would be tipping the 4YO to complete the Stradbroke-Tatts Tiara double. That leaves the gate open for the grand mare Catkins to finally win her first Group 1 race. The Chris Waller-trained 5YO has finished 2nd in both her Group 1 starts this preparation in the Canterbury Stakes (behind Cosmic Endeavour) and Queen Of The Turf Stakes (behind Amanpour) and Saturday is her best chance yet to breakthrough for a win at the top level. Catkins loves the 1400m having won & placed 7 times from 8 attempts at the trip and she excels in the wet having won 6 times from 9 starts in the condition. From barrier 3, Hugh Bowman will take Catkins straight to the front and she will be the one they all have to catch.
