Winners For July Sprint Day

The July Sprint meeting will be held at Randwick-Kensington this Saturday. Kensington was rated a Good 3 on Thursday and with a few showers forecast for Sydney over the next couple of days, the track is likely to border on Good/Dead on raceday.

The Garry Frazer-trained top weight Sheer Style can return to the winner’s circle in the opening event at Kensington (Sydney Race 1, 1150m). This Snitzel filly was impressive winning 1st up at this track over 1000m by 3.5 lengths, leading from start to finish. She couldn’t lead last start and could only finished 5th. A stronger rider in Tim Clark will take over the rein on Saturday and from barrier 1, Clark will drive Sheer Style straight to the lead and she could prove hard to catch. She is currently at great odds at $6.00 in the fixed odds market.

4YO mare Saigon Tea can also return to the winner’s circle on Saturday in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 2400m). Saigon Tea has been racing very consistently not having missed a place for the last 4 starts. This progressive mare is stepping up to 2400m for the first time but I believe she is ready for the distance. Tommy Berry will take her towards the back of the field & give her plenty of time to settle. The small field will also suit Saigon Tea.

In the Inglis Bonus BM75 Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1400m), I like the outsider Husswick. This Rodney Northam-trained 3YO gelding blitzed the field over this distance by 4 lengths in a BM70 two starts back. And he ran a great race last start in the Grafton Guineas, coming from a fair way back to finish 4th, beaten only by 2.3 lengths. Husswick loves 1400m having won twice & placed once from 4 starts over the distance and he’ll be on the limit weight at 54kg. The pace will be quite strong in this race according to my speed map, and from barrier 15, I believe Kathy O’Hara will take the gelding back just behind mid-field to find some cover & make the last run at them. Husswick is currently at the juicy odds of $31.00 & he represents a good each-way bet.

Top weight Adebisi is the class horse in the July Sprint (Sydney Race 6, 1150m). This Queensland visitor has been racing in black type races through out this preparation. He finished a great 2nd to top sprinter Cape Kidnappers 1st up in the Chief De Beers Handicap, who needed to run a race record to defeat Adebisi. After the 3kg claim from Taylor Marshall, Adebisi will only carry 56kg. Race favourite Casual Choice has been in good form & she’ll be on the limit weight at 54kg. But I believe the weight is too closed for the mare to defeat the top weight. Adebisi is good value at $6.00 fixed odds and he’ll go straight to the lead and run them ragged.
