Winners For Saturday’s Racing At Royal Randwick (17th Jan)

Sydney racing will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with fine and warm weather in Sydney, Randwick will be racing on a Good surface on raceday.

The Waller-Bowman combination can kick start the Randwick meeting with a win on Good Project in the TAB Place Multi Handicap (Sydney Race 1, 1600m). This ever consistent 3YO has not missed a place in his last 5 runs and last start he ran a terrific 2nd coming from a long way back over this track and trip. Hugh Bowman stays on board and from a better gate (barrier 4) on Saturday, Good Project will settle much closer and he’ll be the horse to beat.

Bowman can make it a double for the day on board Felines in the Drummond Golf Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 1200m). Felines is the best performed filly in the race and she has only ever missed a place once in her 8 start career. Though with 60kg top weight, Kris Lees decides not to claim on the horse and put Bowman on instead. From barrier 3, Bowman will put Felines on the fence behind the leading bunch and get a cushy run, and Felines will finish the 1200m strongly.

The Commands gelding ‘You’ll Never’ looks hard to beat in the TAB Rewards Mile (Sydney Race 5, 1600m). The 5YO needs racing to get him to peak fitness and he’ll be ready to step up to 1600m on Saturday. You’ll Never likes Randwick having won & placed 5 times from 7 starts at the venue. From barrier 6, James McDonald will park You’ll Never mid-field and get some cover, and the gelding will let down strongly in the straight.

Hugh Bowman looks set to have a great day by riding the winner in the last race at Randwick (Sydney Race 8, 1200m). The Bjorn Baker-trained Coolring has a great record for 1200m having won three & placed twice from 6 starts over the trip. Bowman took Coolring straight to the lead last start at Canterbury and he was never headed but I believe he’ll take a sit behind the leader on Saturday in a race with fairly good pace.

With a good book of rides on Saturday, I believe Bowman can catch up on the leading duo of Blake Shinn and James McDonald in the Sydney Jockey Premiership.
