Winners For Saturday’s Sydney Meeting At Randwick (6th Jan)

This Saturday’s Sydney meeting has been transferred from Warwick Farm to Randwick due to extreme heat this weekend. Randwick was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday and with overcast weather over the next couple of days, the meeting is likely to be held on a Good track on raceday.

Richard Litt could take out the #Theraces Handicap with 4YO The Pharoah (Sydney Race 3, 1200m). This Snitzel stallion has been reasonably consistent and last start at Randwick, Adam Hyeronimus tried to lead all the way over 1400m when 2nd up. Dropping back to 1200m with three weeks between runs will suit. Hyeronimus decides to stick with The Pharoah which is a good sign. From barrier 5, Hyeronimus will employ the same tactics and go straight to the front and The Pharoah will be hard to catch.

Jenny Graham-trained Awesome Pluck is primed to take out the Highway Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 1300m). The 3YO ran a good 3rd when resuming 3 weeks ago at Randwick over 1100.  The gelding has a 1000m trial at Port Macquarie since where he finished 2nd. Awesome Pluck is fitter now and stepping up to 1300m looks ideal. Champion hoop Hugh Bowman will be on board and that’s another plus. Bowman will probably settle just behind the pace one off the fence from barrier 6 and Awesome Pluck will be full of running in the straight.

Last start winner Cellarman can continue his winning form in the Youth Insearch Inspire Mile (Sydney Race 5, 1600m). This Waller-trained gelding has been in tip top form winning 3 times with 2 placings from his last 5 starts. Stepping up to the mile last start, Cellarman came home strongly from mid-field, sprinting home the last 600m in 33.26secs. Winning jockey Blake Shinn will ride the 4YO again on Saturday and having drawn the inside gate (1), Shinn will park the gelding mid-field on the fence and receive a cushy run in transit. Cellarman is primed to make back-to-back race win on Saturday.
