Ballot Squeeze In Group One Kingsford-Smith

Home Of The Brave is favoured to supply Godolphin with yet another Group 1 victory this Saturday in Brisbane, but there’s just one minor problem – he is no certainty to make the final field.

The imported Home Of The Brave is the $6 early favourite for Saturday’s $700,000 Kingsford-Smith Cup at Eagle Farm but because the ballot order in Queensland is decided on prizemoney earned over the past two years, he could struggle to earn a place in the race.

As at Monday, Home Of The Brave finds himself 42nd in order in a field of 18 plus five emergencies. On the plus side, nominations for the race have been out for quite some weeks so there will be a sizeable attrition rate from entries to final acceptances.

Home Of The Brave ($6 fixed odds) is not the only fancied runner who’s place in the field is not guaranteed. Stablemate Trekking ($8) is 36th in order with another stablemate Plague Stone ($11) in 54th place.

The unbeaten three-year-old Zoustyle ($11) is 49th in order following his first-up win at Doomben last Saturday.

Final acceptances for the Kingsford-Smith Cup – the final weight-for-age Group 1 race for the season – are taken at 9am on Wednesday.
