Freedmans Lose Malaguerra

Malaguerra will have a new trainer for the Spring Carnival with Lee Freedman revealing he is no longer in control of the Group 1-winning sprinter.

Freedman broke the news while speaking Racing.com’s Racing Ahead on RSN 927, suggesting he was not aware who would be taking over in the future.

“The owners have removed the horse from the stable and sent it to I don’t know who,” Freedman said.

“I advise anyone in the press should they want to know more to ring the owner, they would probably know more than I do.”

Malaguerra started his career with Wez Hunter, winning his maiden on debut at Cranbourne before being tested in three consecutive Stakes races.

The son of Magnus won two races for Freedman and his brother Anthony while still a colt but his rise through the grades was accelerated when he was gelded following his three-year-old season.

Malaguerra has won seven of 10 races since being gelded but finished ninth behind Under The Louvre in the Stradbroke Handicap at his most recent start.
