One of Australian racing’s most consistent Group 1 gallopers Le Romain got his All-Star Mile campaign off to a low-key start on Wednesday when he finished last in a trial at Wyong.
Le Romain, who has won three Group 1 races and been runner-up in six more, was given an easy time by jockey Andrew Gibbons over the 845-metre trip before finishing about four and a quarter lengths shy of the winner Duck In Dubai.
Trainer Kris Lees confirmed from the Gold Coast that the winner of almost $4 million in prizemoney will be included among the entries for the $5 million All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 16.
As of Tuesday, Racing Victoria had received 70 nominations for the inaugural running of the race where the public will select by vote, 10 of the 14 runners.
Lees said Le Romain will trial again at Warwick Farm on January 22.
