Lipp Looking To Winter With Our Beebee

Talented filly Our Beebee will be out to stake a claim for the Group 2 Queensland Guineas during the Brisbane winter carnival when she chases a hat-trick of wins in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

Our Beebee suffered her only defeat in four starts when she finished third to former crack sprinter Winning Rupert in the Listed Gold Edition Stakes at Doomben in December.

The daughter of Red Dazzler subsequently won over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm on March 4 before stepping up to win over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast two weeks ago.

Trainer Rex Lipp has a big opinion of Our Beebee but isn’t rushing headlong into a winter campaign with Our Beebee who will again be ridden by apprentice Rebecca Williams.

Lipp was surprised when Our Beebee was allotted 57.5kilograms by handicappers.

“She was thrown in at the weights when she won last time and now she’s gone up three kilos,” Lipp said.

“She’s a very good filly but she’s still got a long way to go if she is to measure up to the Queensland Guineas.”

Lipp has mapped out a tentative plan to the 1600-metres Queensland Guineas in June but will let Our Beebee decide her own fate.

“It was too early for her to consider the Toowoomba Guineas over a mile next week,” Lipp said.

“I’m looking at the big picture not a home town race.

“All going well she’ll run again at Eagle Farm in two weeks before the Listed Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm two weeks later.

“It’s still early in her preparation but if she makes the grade, the Queensland Guineas would then be the ideal race for her.

“Right now, I couldn’t ask for any more from her.”

Lipp has won two Queensland Guineas with Sequential Charm in 2007 and Express Air in 2009.

Our Beebee is a daughter of Stakes winning mare Royal Shiraz which Lipp trained throughout her career.

“Royal Shiraz has only had two fillies by Red Dazzler,” he said.

“It’s been a filly’s family and her other one was Star Drop which I also trained.

“Star Drop was a very good filly too but she did a suspensory just as she was coming good.”
