Melbourne Form On Show In Millions Lead-Up

United And Conquer and Champagne Boom have both drawn around the middle of the field in Wednesday’s crucial Magic Millions lead-up, the $200,000 Wyong 2YO Classic.

The winners of Victoria first two juvenile features of the season will start from barriers seven and five respectively in the 1100-metre event.

Unite And Conquer has not been to the races since winning the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on October 6, but did win a 740m Randwick trial by more than three lengths in a time of 43.7 seconds on November 27.

The son of Hinchinbrook, who is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, shares the $9 top line of betting with Victorian colt Dubious in Sportsbet’s Gold Coast Magic Millions market.

Seven days after Unite And Conquer won the Maribyrnong Trial, Champagne Boom brilliant won the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield before a narrow third placing in the Ottawa Stakes (1000m) won by Bella Rosa.

The Lindsay Park-prepared daughter of Spirit Of Boom is a $17 chance for the Gold Coast feature.

Craig Williams has been aboard Champagne Boom at both starts and retains the ride on Wednesday, while Adam Hyeronimus takes over from Stephen Baster aboard Unite And Conquer.

They are among two of the headline acts in a race that is expected to have a significant impact on markets for the $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 12.

Gary Portelli’s Spaceboy, who was highly fancied when second to Tassort in the Golden Gift at Rosehill on November 24, is also engaged and will start from barrier two, while Exhilerates – a daughter of Snitzel and Samaready – has drawn gate two.

The Wyong Classic is the main race on a program that also includes the $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3&4YO Stakes (1200m).

Heading that field is the Jason Warren-trained Bel Sonic (barrier eight), who counts Unite And Conquer’s speedy stablemate Invincible Star (nine) among his rivals.
