Next Stop Championships For Raiment

Raiment was unlucky last start at Canterbury but she righted that wrong with a gutsy win at Randwick, and now The Championships are on the radar for the Godolphin-trained filly.

“She’s doing it against older mares so she’ll have a short break now and come back for the PJ Bell over The Championships. Back to her own age at level weights, she’ll be competitive,” John O’Shea said.

“The other thing we learnt today (Saturday) is she is probably looking for seven (furlongs) and if she can run seven that will open plenty of avenues for her.

“There’s plenty of things to say she’s got a bright future.”

James Doyle is starting to make a big impression in Sydney and the jockey’s strength was again on display in driving the Street Cry filly to the line. It was also Doyle’s first victory at Randwick.

“I was anticipating them going a bit faster early but Sangiovese got out, got to the fence and steadied us a little bit. I was keen to pop her out and get her rolling. She’s very tough. I wish they all tried as hard as she did,” said Doyle.

“That was my first winner here so it’s nice to get that monkey off the back.”
