Oakleigh Plate The Target For Ardrossan

Mick Price is giving serious thought to running the unbeaten colt Ardrossan in next month’s Gr.1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield.

He aired his thoughts after the son of Redoute’s Choice had performed well in a jump-out at Sandown on Tuesday.

“I really like the horse. He beat Super Cash (in the jump-out), who has won Group Twos and Threes here,” Price said.

“I think my three-year-old is a 71-rater, so you probably take the soft option with the Manfred on February 3 for three-year-olds, but he’s supposed to become a Group One colt.

“I’m not sure if a 71-rated three-year-old gets a run in the Oakleigh Plate, but we’ll have to work it out.”

Ardrossan won both of his starts for Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh, including the Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Stakes (1100m) at Te Rapa before relocating across the Tasman.

His ownership syndicate includes New Zealand farms Waikato Stud and Jamieson Park as well as Lib Petagna and John and Mark Carter and their sister Rachael.
