Price Considers Badawiya Options

Trainer Mick Price is weighing up where to kick off the spring preparation of talented mare Badawiya.

Price had initially planned to run the four-year-old first up in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 10 but revealed his is considering waiting an extra fortnight for the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

“Last preparation as an autumn three-year-old she was really impressive first-up and she’s a bit of a first-up sort of a horse,” Price said.

“I’ve got a bit of an idea that I’ll run her in the Rupert Clarke under handicap conditions on her home track.”

Badawiya returned last preparation with a dominant victory in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington before finishing unplaced at her following three starts.

The daughter of Al Maher had been set to trial at Cranbourne on Monday but will now take part in a jumpout at Caulfield on Tuesday after the trials were washed out.

Price said Inspired Estelle and Oregon’s Day would also likely jumpout at Caulfield on Tuesday.
