Trainer Kelly Schweida is hoping weather forecasters are right with a prediction for rain as promising filly Fleet Dove looks to build on her record at Doomben on Saturday.
Fleet Dove will be attempting to win for the third time in her four-start career when she runs in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1350 metres.
The daughter of Not A Single Doubt showed she had untapped ability with a narrow win over the Less Ross-trained Hancora Field at her last appearance at Doomben two weeks ago.
The track was rated a heavy 9 in her last win and Schweida is hopeful the Doomben track will again be rain-affected.
“She’s never raced on a good track and her all three runs so far have been on heavy tracks,” Schweida said.
“If we get some rain, it could put some of her opposition out of play and it’ll definitely suit her.”
Schweida finished last season in fifth spot on the Brisbane trainers’ premiership with 36 winners in the metropolitan area.
“We had a good year again last season and to train 36 winners was a good effort,” he said.
Schweida believes Fleet Dove is destined for a big career and hasn’t ruled out the summer three-year-old races with her.
“She’s got a great family and is bred to get further, possibly 1600 metres,” he said.
“I’m not certain what is ahead for her just yet as this is still her first preparation.
“But the summer races could be an option.”
