Caulfield trainer Mick Price will send his talented filly Seabrook back to Sydney in search of another Group 1 victory in the $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Seabrook was one of the two year old stars during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a win in the Group 1 $500,000 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes(1600m) at Randwick and the Hinchinbrook filly’s work this week has boosted Price’s confidence.
“I think she’s improved out of sight,” Price told racing.com.
“Inside grass the reverse way here Saturday morning, she was super. He (Damien Oliver) rode her here this morning (Tuesday) and he can be critical of them Damien – he’s a very good judge – and he just got off and said she’s spot on.”
Seabrook failed to fire first up when third to Native Soldier in the Group 3 $150,000 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on September 1 but Price said that she has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since the run.
“She had two trials at Cranbourne,”‘ Price said.
“One was average, one was OK and her first-up run here was OK.
“Ollie (Damien Oliver) said (after her first-up run) that ‘she used to tow me in this horse, but she seems a bit different’, but I reckon she’s improved out of sight.”
Seabrook has drawn barrier nine in the eleven horse Golden Rose Stakes field with Oliver following her to Sydney to ride in the Group 1 meeting at Rosehill as oppose to staying in Melbourne for the Group 1 $500,000 Sir Rupert Clark Stakes (1400m) race day at Caulfield.
The Kris Lees trained Graff is the early favourite for the Golden Rose Stakes at $4.50 with leading trainer Chris Waller saddling up the next three in the betting, The Autumn Sun at $4.50, Lean Mean Machine at $6 and Zousain at $8 while Seabrook is marked as a $10 chance.
