Summary Of Our Trainers’ Tips For Today’s Racing (Sat, 17th August)

From Kim Waugh

Horse: Venezuela
Message: (Saturday, Kensington Race 8, TAB Hcp) With just 5 career starts producing 2 wins and a 2nd, the lightly raced son of Galileo was purchased by the Waugh team in April this year following an impressive win at Kyneton. On Saturday he competes in the BM 78 over 1400m 1st up with Brenton Avdulla aboard who won a trial on Venezuela recently. Although he has drawn a tricky wide gate (8), if the speed is on early, look for him to be hitting the line hard late.

From John Thompson

Horse: Commander
Message: (Saturday, Kensington Race 5, Events By ATC Hcp) I like the booking of Nash, he’s come back and is in form. The horse goes well with a strong rider on and they don’t come any stronger than Nash. If Rawiller is the edge that Commander needs to find an extra length or so then expect him to be hard to beat in the Events By ATC Handicap.

Horse: Thy Kingdom Come
Message: (Saturday, Kensington Race 8, TAB Hcp) The 5YO endured a wide run and knocked up when he ran 4th behind The Party Girl at Randwick two weeks ago. He’s 3rd up, he’s coming right, I probably thought he was right the other day but he just had a bit of a tough run in transit. He’s in the right race (on Saturday), beaten most of the field before, barrier one, James McDonald, it ticks a lot of boxes. He’ll go forward and make his own luck. I think he goes better when he gets the fence so barrier one is a good draw for him. You can just let him go,

Horse: Helga
Message: (Saturday, Kensington Race 2, Book Spring Hospitality Hcp) Helga has earned a shot at Saturday grade after posting back-to-back wins at the midweeks and gets into the race with 54kg after the 3kg claim of apprentice Chris Williams. The stable has been happy with the progress of Helga who has “done a treat” and won’t be surprised to see her make a successful transition to Saturday level.

Horse: Slow Burn
Message: (Saturday, Kensington Race 5, Events By ATC Hcp) Chris Williams to ride Slow Burn. Hopefully she can find her best form after three unplaced runs, including a last-start 6th to The Party Girl when she was beaten less than three lengths. She didn’t have much luck her last run, she ran into a few dead ends. I can’t get her any fitter, she’s drawn alright, she’s got three kilos off her back (56kg) so she gets her chance.
