Gai Waterhouse has declared that speedy filly Vinicunca is the horse that can deliver her a maiden victory in the $1.5 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday week.
The daughter of I Am Invincible split Godolphin fillies Lyre and Athiri in Saturday’s Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m), having captured the Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on debut at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.
Speaking from trackwork at The Valley on Monday, Waterhouse said Vinicunca had come through the run in excellent order.
The Hall of Fame trainer has won the Golden Slipper a record six times and boasts four wins in the Magic Millions Classic and said she’d dearly love to add her name to the honour roll for Victoria’s premier juvenile contest.
“I think she’s top class,” Waterhouse said.
“Anyone watching should be keeping their mind and their money on her.
“She’ll fight the finish out in the Blue Diamond and then she’ll go up to Sydney to contest the Golden Slipper.
“She’s quite similar to Overreach who won the Golden Slipper, she’s a very tough filly.”
Vinicunca is rated a $10 chance in Blue Diamond market, which is headed by Athiri and Loving Gaby at $4.50.
