Weir Stayer On Target For Cup

Australian stayer Lord Van Percy will cross the Tasman for a tilt at the Gr.1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on March 11.

“At this stage the plan is for him to go over,” said trainer Darren Weir’s racing manager Jeremy Rogers. “He needs to get up to two miles.”

The English import has won five races and he finished fourth last time out over 2500 metres at Moonee Valley.

Meanwhile, the stable has been impressed with their New Zealand recruit Humidor, who runs at Caulfield on Saturday off the back of a runner-up finish in the Gr.3 Carlyon Cup.

“He’s pretty good and he’ll run in the Peter Young Stakes and then the Australian Cup,” Rogers said.
