Ten years ago champion colt Dundeel romped to a six-length victory in the Australian Derby G1.
On Saturday Dundeel’s son Militarize became not only his 6th Group 1 winner & 23rd stakeswinner, but also his third Group 1-winning 2YO when he landed the $1 million ATC Inglis Sires’ 1400m G1 in superb style from Don Corleone & Pier Pressure.
That result gives Dundeel a remarkable 10% winning strike rate in the Australasian Group 1 2YO features since he has had runners, with successes in both New Zealand Group 1 2YO races, as well as the Champagne Stakes and Inglis Sires’ in Sydney.
Jockey Joao Moreira said, “He’s such a nice horse. He kind of floated on the surface which not many horses would be able to considering the track is quite heavy today. Getting a good gate, putting himself in the right spot, he was the winner a long way from home.”
Trainer Chris Waller, celebrating his second major Group 1 2YO victory in a fortnight, after Shinzo’s Golden Slipper, said, “I wouldn’t say we were confident [today], but we knew we had a lovely horse…we’ve got a very nice colt here and he’s done a great job to win here today.”
Bred by Jonathan Munz’s GSA Bloodstock, Militarize is the second foal of the imported mare Amerindia (by Dubawi), a daughter of French Group 1 winner Satwa Queen.
Militarize was offered for sale by Bhima Thoroughbreds at Magic Millions Gold Coast and purchased by Newgate Bloodstock, China Horse Club & Trilogy Racing for $550,000 – the third-highest price paid for a Dundeel yearling colt in 2022. He joins Champagne S. G1 winner Castelvecchio and Champion New Zealand 2YO Yourdeel to head Dundeel’s list of 26 juvenile winners.
Amerindia has a current yearling colt by Dundeel’s Caulfield Guineas-winning son Super Seth, a weanling colt by Snitzel and is back in foal to Dundeel.
An excellent 4th in the Doncaster Mile G1 by quality mare Hope In Your Heart and a Doomben win by 2YO filly Oceans of Energy also contributed to Dundeel’s $948,000 Saturday.
That elevates the son of High Chaparral to 8th spot on the Australian General Sires’ Premiership with 13 stakes wins and prizemoney of $9.2 million – the highest season total of his career, with four months of 2022/23 left to run.
Dundeel has 30 yearlings, including 10 colts & 3 fillies consigned by Arrowfield, to be offered at Inglis Easter 2023 which begins at 10 am on Monday.
