A consummate front-running performance by September Run to win Saturday’s Listed Bill Carter Stakes at Doomben to add another tick to the reputation of her sire Exceed And Excel as the world’s leading supplier of juvenile winners.
With a record approaching 500 individual two-year-old winners Exceed And Excel is in a class of his own, and September Run showed she was likely to add further more important victories.
Taken straight to the front, the filly made all the running and held on to score by a head from Plutocrat with the same margin to Gotta Kiss in third place.
September Run is the first foal from the Stakes-winning mare Pittsburgh Flyer (Street Cry) who is the daughter of another Stakes winner in Warning Zone, a member of a strong Stakes-winning South African family.
Bred by Alpara Lodge and offered by Blue Gum Farm, she fetched $380,000 at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
Exceed And Excel is due to stand the coming Australian breeding season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a service fee of $132,000, including GST.
