No-one can be surprised that, as his lifetime statistics are compiled ahead of his final Easter Sale appearance as a sire, Redoute’s Choice updates them with a new stakeswinner: the 15th since his death in March 2019 and the 178th of his exceptional stud career.
That’s 3YO filly Miravalle who weaved her way through the Kembla Classic field on Friday to land a valuable Group 3 victory and earn a couple of chances to become Redoute’s Choice’s 40th Group 1 winner, in the Vinery Stud S. G1 on 27 March and, all going well, the Australian Oaks G1 two weeks later.
Bought for Arrowfield by the late Rick Worthington for $460,000 from the Magic Millions draft of breeder Kulani Park, Miravalle is a half-sister to Champion Filly Yankee Rose and a three-quarter sister to New Zealand Derby G1 winner Redoute’s Dancer – all descended from the 1981 Yorkshire Oaks G1 winner Condessa.
Her trainer Mark Newnham has already prepared a Group 1 winner for Arrowfield in Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven.
Miravalle is the sixth Australian stakeswinner by Redoute’s Choice this season, a figure that places him among the country’s top dozen sires, 17 years after his first-crop 2YOs appeared, and 15 years after he won the first of his three General Premierships.
Yes, he’s 27th by earnings, but with his sons Not A Single Doubt (1st) and Snitzel (5th) well up the table, and his daughters responsible for 15 domestic stakeswinners and $19.1 million prizemoney this season, the posthumous influence of Redoute’s Choice is undeniable.
