Memsie Shaping As Race Of The Spring

This Saturday’s Group 1 $350,000 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield is shaping as the early race of the Spring.

Touted as the return of super-mare Atlantic Jewel, as well as highly rated Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup hopefuls It’s A Dundeel and Fiorente, the Memsie Stakes looks like having it all.

Flemington trainer Mark Kavanagh is also likely to run Australian Cup winner Super Cool in the race.

With regular rider Michael Rodd required for Atlantic Jewel, Glen Boss has been booked to partner Super Cool.

Rodd rode Super Cool in a jump-out at Flemington this morning, but if Atlantic Jewel makes her long-awaited return to the racetrack in the Memsie, Rodd will ride her.

Unbeaten in seven starts, Atlantic Jewel has not been seen at the races since she easily won the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick, on April 28 last year.
