Winners for 2022 Civic Stakes Day

The Civic Stakes meeting will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday (25th Jun). The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with fine weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will border on Good/Soft condition on raceday.

Top weight Niffler is the highest rated horse in the Quayclean Handicap and she should win accordingly (Sydney Race 5, 1800m). The mare has never missed a place in her nine start career with four wins and five placings and she can handle any track conditions. Fourth up on Saturday, the 4YO is ready to step up to 1800m. With his 2kg claim, Chris Williams will be carrying 59.5kg. From barrier 6, Williams will go forward and settle in a one off one back position and Niffler will be given every chance to win the race.

Shameless Miss has been very consistent this preparation and she looks a terrific light weight chance to take out the Furphy Stayer’s Cup (Sydney race 6, 2600m). The 4YO mare has won three races with a 2nd from her last five starts and with four consecutive mile and a half starts, Shameless Miss is rock hard fit and is looking for 2600m. And the mare will only carry 51.5kg after Tyler Schiller’s claim. Schiller will sit just behind the leaders from a good gate (3) and with her good recent form and a light weight, she could run away with the Stayer’s Cup.

The in-form Joseph Pride stable has three runners in the Civic Stakes and Mariamia looks the best of them all (Sydney Race 8, 1400m). This Joseph Pride-trained 5YO won well over 1200m at Rosehill two starts back and the mare wasn’t disgraced with a close 4th last start, beaten just over a length in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes. Sam Clipperton knows the horse well and he will once again be on board on Saturday. Though never won over 1400m, Mariamia has drawn the rail and will get a cosy run in the box seat and that will able her to run out a strong seven furlong.
