Winners For The First Day Of 2023 Everest Carnival

The first day of the Sydney Everest Carnival will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday (16th Sept). The course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday and with warm and sunny weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

Montefilia is down in grade on Saturday and she is the class horse in the Kingston Town Stakes (Sydney Race 5, 2000m). The 6YO mare was only beaten just over two lengths in her first two runs for the Waller stable in the weight-for-age Winx Stakes and the Chelmsford Stakes. And she’s racing as though she’s looking for the 2000m. Jason Collett is a key engagement and from barrier 3, Collett will settle behind mid-field and Montefilia will fly down the Randwick straight.

The Gary Portelli-trained Kimochi has finally got conditions to suit in the Tea Rose Stakes (Sydney Race 6, 1400m). After a sizzling first-up run when 3rd in the Silver Shadow Stakes, the filly followed that up by a good 2nd to the form horse Tiz Invincible in the Furious Stakes. Stepping up to 1400m would suit her much better and so would the dry track. Beautifully drawn in barrier 5, Jason Collett will settle a bit closer to sit just behind the leaders and Kimochi will finish the race strongly.

Think It Over has come back in terrific order from his injury and he is primed to take out the 7 Stakes (Sydney Race 7, 1600m). Kerry Parker has done a great job in nursing the 8YO back to top form. After two good runs at weight-for-age, Think It Over will strip much fitter and he loves Randwick having won eight races at the venue. Nash Rawiller knows the horse really well and he is going to box seat from the good gate (2) and Think It Over is the one they have to catch.
