Winners For This Saturday’s Sydney Meeting (17th Jul)

This Saturday’s Sydney racing will be held at Royal Randwick (17th July). The course proper was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday and with mainly fine weather leading up to the weekend, Randwick will border on Soft/Heavy condition on raceday.

Top weight Vreneli could simply run away with The Agency Real Estate Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 1200m). This Team Waterhouse-trained 3YO resumed with a close 5th over 1100m at Rosehill two weeks ago. Stepping up to 1200m will certainly suit as the gelding is unbeaten at six furlong winning 3 from 3. Vreneli had previously won on Soft and Heavy tracks and he has drawn beautifully in barrier 5. Jean Van Overmeire will take Vreneli to the lead and Vreneli is the one they all have to catch.

The Waller-trained Papal Warrior has been in great form and he is going to complete a hat trick of wins in the Elite Sand & Soil Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1600m). The 4YO gelding has won his last two races with further two 2nd placings in his past four starts. Papal Warrior has a terrific record on Heavy tracks with two wins and three placings from six starts in the condition and Kerrin McEvoy will once again be on board on Saturday. McEvoy will slide across from barrier 9 to settle mid-field and Papal Warrior is going to swim his way to victory and make it three wins on the trot.

ACY Securities Handicap looks to be a suitable race for Opacity (Sydney Race 7, 1800m). This 4YO gelding won brilliantly over the Randwick mile two starts back and he was only beaten a bit over half a length last start over 1800m. Opacity has won four races on Soft and Heavy tracks and he also has a pretty good record at Randwick. With Tom Sherry’s 2kg claim, Opacity will drop to 58kg and that could well be a winning weight. Drawn the rail (gate 1), Sherry is going to park mid-field on the fence with a cosy run and Opacity will be too strong at the finish.
