Winners For This Saturday’s Sydney Racing At Randwick (23rd May)

This Saturday’s Sydney meeting will be held at Royal Randwick. The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with showers forecast for Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will surely be racing on a rain-affected surface on raceday.

The unbeaten Peltzer could be the horse to beat in the opening event at Randwick (Sydney Race 1, 1300m). The 2YO colt has won both career starts and his latest victory was at Randwick on a Soft track a fortnight ago. Stepping up to 1300m 3rd up should suit. By So You Think, Peltzer should be able to handle the potential Heavy track. Kerrin McEvoy will go forward and sit behind likely leader Hinchbeast and Peltzer could just run away from them in the straight.

Team Waterhouse-trained Reinvest could have conditions to suit in the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 2000m). This Redoute’s Choice gelding has done a good job winning both career starts on Soft tracks. He’s very fit  and the 2000m will presents no problem for the 3YO. Hugh Bowman will be on board Reinvest on Saturday and that’s a bonus and so will the gate 1 at the 2000m start at Randwick. Bowman will go straight to the front and Reinvest could be hard to catch.

The in-form John O’Shea stable holds all the aces with Southern Lad in the At Sea Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1100m). The 5YO gelding has a terrific record on Soft & Heavy tracks with 3 wins and 2 placings from 6 starts in the wet and he has only missed a place once over 1100m. First up in the Wagga Town Plate, Southern Lad got a long way back before charging home to finish 2nd to Irish Songs on a Heavy 9 track. James McDonald will take over the rein and from the outside barrier, McDonald will settle a bit closer in transit. Southern Lad will be let loose and run over the top of this field.
