Winners For Saturday’s Sydney Racing At Randwick-Kensington (2nd Jan, 2021)

The first Sydney meeting in 2021 will be held at Randwick-Kensington this Saturday (2nd Jan). The course proper was rated a Soft 7 on Thursday and with further showers forecast for Sydney leading up to the weekend, Kensington will be racing on a genuine Soft track on raceday.

The John O’Shea-trained Parry Sound has been very consistent with two wins and three placings from his past five starts (Sydney Race 3, 2400m).  The 5YO gelding had won at the Kensington track over 2400m before and he also has a good record in the wet with two wins and three placings from six attempts in the condition. With in-form apprentice Tom Sherry’s 2kg claim, Parry Sound will carry a winnable weight of 58kg. Beautifully drawn in barrier 4, Sherry will be box-seating just behind the leaders and Parry Sound is the one they have to beat.

The Bjorn Baker stable has been firing on all cylinders lately and they can win again with Edison in the Maroubra Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1550m). Edison has been in top form this campaign beginning with two 2nds followed by two great wins. The 4YO is rock hard fit and is ready to step up to 1550m. And the gelding’s wet track form reads: 4 wins and 3 placings from 9 starts. On the speed map, Edison is likely to go to the front and control the pace and he could prove hard to catch.

Smart 3YO Smart Image can continue his winning run in The Agency Real Estate Handicap (Sydney Race 6, 1300m). This Smart Missile colt has won three times from four career starts. He won pretty easily when first-up this campaign on 11th Dec over 1250m at Canterbury. Smart Image is on the up and he is unbeaten on Soft tracks winning 2 from 2. Tommy Berry will take over the rein on Saturday and from barrier 7, Berry will slot in somewhere mid-field and Smart Image will be too strong in the run home.
