Shoot Out Retired

The racing career of Shoot Out is over with trainer Chris Waller and connections announcing his retirement.

Shoot Out, a winner of five Group 1’s including the ATC Australian Derby, has struggled for form in two runs this preparation, prompting the decision to draw the curtains on what has been a hugely successful career, netting more than $3 million in prizemoney.

“A decision has been made on Monday by the owners and myself to retire Shoot out following a very successful career. The horse came to me as a proven top level performer and it was a pleasure and a privilege to be associated with him,” Waller said.

“He was the winner of an AJC Derby, Randwick Guineas, two Chipping Norton Stakes’ and a George Main Stakes.

“In addition he won a QLD Sires Produce Stakes, Royal Sovereign Stakes, JJ Liston Stakes and Bletchingly Stakes.

“He has performed at the highest level for five years which is testament to all of those that have been involved in his career.

“He will retire as a sound horse to the owners property, Peachester Lodge, in Queensland.”

Shoot Out’s retirement will force the Epsom Handicap weights to be raised 1kg, allowing Blake Shinn to ride favourite Toydini at 54kg.

The seven-year-old High Chaparral gelding started his career in Queensland with John Wallace, winning the Group 2 Sire’s Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm at only his second start.
