Nowra will be kicking up its heels next weekend with Sunday’s $65,000 Nowra Cup a Big Dance qualifying event.
“Our Country Motor Company Nowra Cup Day promises to be another great day at Shoalhaven City Turf Club,” said SCTC’s CEO, Paul Weekes.
“Next Sunday’s meeting continues the spring and summer series of racing at Nowra and since we moved the Cup to the summertime slot, it’s gone from strength to strength.
“That said, the Club will be hoping for more favourable weather conditions than last year when persistent rain put a dampener on proceedings.
“And being a Big Dance qualifying race [$3m Final at Royal Randwick in November 2025] makes it even more appealing and as was the case last year, a quality field of runners for the Cup is expected.
“It was pleasing to see last year’s winner Floating run such a commendable race in the Big Dance highlighting that the Nowra form can hold its own in big races and the grey backed that up with a Rosehill win last Saturday week.
“On Sunday there will be a Fashions on the Field with plenty of prizes, a TAB and bookmakers on course along with activities for the kids.
“It’s also a great time of the year for Christmas parties with a full range of raceday packages available including the popular lawn umbrella packages and pre-ordered platters.”
Meanwhile, Expressions of Interest have been opened for 24 brand new stables further south at Sapphire Coast Turf Club.
The Club hosts 12 race meetings per year with $1.89m worth of prizemoney distributed in the 2023/24 season and also conducts a highly successful two-day carnival in early February.
The stables are the first to be offered full-time on-course at this location and further details can be obtained from SCTC or at www.racingnsw.com.au

“Whether you’re a racing enthusiast, music lover, or just looking for a festive way to celebrate, this event has something for everyone,” said TFJC’s secretary, Julie Manning.
“To make the day even better, its free entry with the Club offering free bus services to make it easy to join in on the fun.
“Gates open at midday so gather friends and family and head to the track for an exciting day out!
“Our feature races include the prestigious Evermore Pearl where the winning owners, trainer and jockey are awarded pearl prizes.
“The day is packed with live entertainment to make the experience unforgettable with Matt Zarb performing in the Pavilion, while Hudson Rose brings her unique style to our brand-new entertainment area ‘The Paddock’.
“This vibrant space is equipped with TAB facilities, undercover seating for 250 people, bar facilities, three large TV screens and live music.”
